Psalm 23:3a (KJV) He restoreth my soul.
We just held Tractor Sunday at our church, Emanuel Lutheran in Elmer, NJ. The objective is to get our friends and neighbors out to church, and we encourage them to bring their restored old tractors and , in some cases, antique cars to our outdoor service.
Some of these tractors have literally been pulled out of the woods with trees growing up through the frames and have motors that are rusted to the point that they won’t turn over. After much hard work, a marvelous transformation has taken place and these old relics are restored to showroom or better condition.
Maybe seeing an old tractor or antique car restored has not been your experience, but most of us have seen an old piece of furniture brought to lustrous beauty by the capable and loving hands of someone who cared a great deal for that piece.
All these are wonderful illustrations of restoration, but they all pale in comparison to the greatest restoration of all: the restoration of God’s people by God through the life, death, and resurrection of our savior Jesus Christ.
May we all remain eternally grateful that God has restored us through His grace and mercy.
