Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2 NIV)
If you are like me, there are times in your life when you wonder what your purpose is and how you fit into God’s plan. You may ask questions like “What difference am I making”? Several years ago, one of my employees shared with me some personal struggles she was going through. I wondered why she chose to tell me, but I had gone through an almost identical struggle in my life, of which she was not aware. Because I went through the same challenges, I was able to understand what she was feeling, support her, and lift her up when she needed it. We met almost every week and sometimes those times were filled with tears and heartbreak, sometimes with sharing our own personal feelings, and sometimes with resolve to continue pressing onward. When my employee left the organization, she came to me and told me how much it meant to her that I was there to help her through that difficult time in her life. She felt that me being there for her was part of God’s purpose in my life. I did not feel I did anything special, but it meant so much to her. When I look back on this time, I realize that she didn’t choose me, God chose me. And through him, I was able to help carry her burden and make a difference in her life. Praise God!
